A new 96-core Ryzen Threadripper CPU, codenamed "Shimada Peak," has been identified in a recent shipping manifest. This processor is expected to feature Zen 5 CPU cores and a configuration similar to AMD's current Zen 4 Threadripper flagship models. The design suggests compatibility with existing DDR5 HEDT motherboard platforms, including TRX50 and WRX90. The Shimada Peak CPU is built with twelve 8-core CCDs and a single IO die, reflecting a structure consistent with AMD's previous 96-core Threadripper and EPYC models. The primary architectural change appears to be the updated CCDs, while the IO die likely remains unchanged from the previous generation, which could facilitate support for existing HEDT motherboards.

The launch timeline for the Shimada Peak series remains uncertain. Given that the previous generation was released in October 2023 after a significant delay, a similar schedule might apply, potentially pushing the release to mid-late 2025. However, there is speculation that AMD might accelerate this timeline, though official details are yet to be confirmed.

AMD has not provided specific information regarding its Threadripper roadmap. Industry reports suggest that the company is preparing to introduce multiple products soon, including the Ryzen AI 300 PRO, EPYC Turin, and Instinct MI325X. The next significant announcement is anticipated at CES, where new products such as Kraken or Strix Halo might be revealed.
