Installed over previous set with no issues.

Why install these chipset drivers if Windows installs them in the update center?

Microsoft in general only installs a generic driver giving the chipset basic functionality. For the full function of & the optimised performance of AMD's proprietary chipset you will need the AMD chipset driver provided by AMD. 😉

Always update over the old ver. Unistalling it then installing the new ver could break it.

Doesn't windows include the Intel chipset drivers automatically though? It just strikes me as odd that AMD requires manual installation while Intel does not. But if I've got that wrong apologies

No. Intel chipset drivers don't get installed via Windows update on a lot of systems either. Even when some drivers are, they are never as up to date as the manual download.

On Intel there are no such chipset drivers, there are only a set of INF files that tell the system who they are in the device manager.

These drivers never brought anything relevant to me. I don't even install them anymore

Interesting. I keep seeing all these downloads for amd this and amd that. Really glad my intel rig works great from day1 without any extra clutter.

Lucky you. Tell this to 13/14 gen owners.

I really wouldn't consider it an advantage to be dependent on crap-a** quality Windows Update driver distribution or mainboard vendors to get rid of unknown devices in device manager.

Always install the latest chipset drivers, you never want to rely on Windows default stuff.

Intel machines still need drivers. Most computers sort of just work without them, that doesn't equate to running optimally.

Thank you, good to know!

Mr.Spade, can you elaborate what would be running suboptimal if you don't have a driver? I've never run into issues, therefore I am unaware of ossues that might come up. Regarding device manager, everything is known and accounted for. Maybe I'm not running a lot of extra stuff?

Pointing out that the drivers and updates aren't "extra", you just either have them installed or you don't. It's fairly common that people building a computer the first time don't know to install them so devices aren't being initialized. That can lead excessive polling by the system. Even having them, the companies put out updates for a reason. Patching flaws/security, improving performance. I've definitely seen Intel systems that were stupid slow until I update the storage controller driver.
