The review

It's big, it's wide, it's fast and it's OLED. Meet the 5K Asus ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD which we review today. The Asus ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD features a large 49-inch display with a notable 1800R curvature, designed to provide an immersive gaming experience. This curvature is engineered to create a sense of envelopment for the user. Oh and it's 5120 x 1440 (32:9, Dual QHD) @ 144Hz. Equipped with QD-OLED technology, the monitor offers deep black levels, contributing to an enhanced contrast ratio, which is particularly beneficial for gaming and video content. This technology is crucial in delivering more nuanced and detailed images, especially in darker scenes.

Asus has incorporated an innovative cooling system in this monitor to address two key aspects. Firstly, it enables the monitor to achieve a high peak brightness of 1000 nits, particularly when HDR (High Dynamic Range) is activated. This high brightness level is essential for providing clearer, more vibrant images, especially in HDR content. Secondly, the cooling system plays a vital role in reducing the risk of OLED burn-in. Burn-in, a common issue with OLED screens, occurs when prolonged exposure to static images leads to permanent discoloration of the display panel. An active cooling solution (not audible at all) in the PG49WCD monitor mitigates this risk, enhancing the longevity and reliability of the display.

OLED panels are known for their rapid response times and remarkable contrast ratios. This particular OLED monitor comes with the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certification, and it is also recognized as G-SYNC Compatible by NVIDIA, despite lacking a dedicated G-SYNC module. The monitor's color performance is notable for its expansive gamut coverage. It encompasses the full spectrum of the sRGB color space and almost the entire DCI-P3 color space. This breadth of coverage is attributed to the use of a QD-OLED panel. When HDR mode is activated on a device, this monitor can reach exceptionally high brightness levels, a capability not commonly found in many OLED monitors. This enhanced brightness is facilitated by an advanced cooling system that improves passive cooling efficiency. Additionally, the monitor comes factory-calibrated for the sRGB color space, making it suitable for tasks in graphic design.
