Yeah, playing counterstrike definitely needs 10 gigabit LAN.

Great review Hilbert. I predominalty use ex-enterprise gear at home, all Netgear. I will have my eye on this as i have recently upgraded to quite a few 10Gbit connections around the house. I will be looking to get this 2nd hand of course lol The general question asked, why 10Gbit? Well SSD. Using both 10GBaseFL and 10GBaseT, i prefer the former as its cheaper somes to buy, I have seen transfer speeds of around 900MB/s, limited by hardware, it maxed out at 120MB/s under Gigabit. Throw lots of similtainous connections and data transfer at the same time, its quite easly to bottleneck even a Gigabit connection.

I remember a long time ago back in the days of dial-up. When if you wanted to properly game competitively you had to go to a LAN party. Back then going to an all weekend LAN party was kind of a cult thing. The Lads used to come from far and wide to game. TBH not much gaming was actually done. But I remember the switch netgear ran at 100Mbps which was considered outstanding as it could keep up with the HDD's of the server.

Thr 8port model is a bit expensive for "only" 8+2 manageable ports. Nice review btw. Personally I really dislike network equipment being able to be controlled through an app, but otherwise this seems to be a really nice switch. I am planning a dedicated server / hypervisor network (only servers and NAS), so this should be optimal for that use case. @Hilbert Hagedoorn : Did you test jumbo frames? Maybe I missed it, but how big can frames be?
